I’ve been fishing from my early childhood in 80’ – my native town Liepaja has dislocated between Baltic sea and Liepaja’s lake. This dislocation is like a paradise for fishermen – a lot of opportunities in the city and nearby! You can challenge your fisherman’s good luck from the fine white sand beach, piers or breakwaters. Liepaja’s harbour has two breakwaters. The Northern Breakwater – the longest one in Latvia – was built at the end of the 19th century as a crucial part of Liepāja’s fortress and military port. The breakwater is 1800 metres long and 7.35 metres wide. It is a favourite spot to watch sunsets and fishing in the sea not only for locals. The Southern breakwater is more than 700 metres long of which about 200 metres are level enough for easy walking. Beyond that there is a mass of large boulders one on top of another making it both a challenge to walk and an attraction for those seeking an adventure. There are good places for fishing camp too, if you have appropriate physical condition to get there.

Of course, you can choose fishing from the boat or more peaceful fishing style on the shore, looking for the best place on electric tricycle. In association with guest house “Verbelnieki” and financial support of European Agricultural fund for Rural development there is possible to organize the event (private or corporative) “Catch.Cook.Enjoy” – fishing competition, cooking and leisure activities on the beach, in the guest house and sauna. The most popular sea fish species are fluke, cod, garfish and smelt (during the season). If you are very lucky, there would be some salmon.

Lake Liepāja is a lagoon created by the receding Baltic Sea, The Trade Canal links lake to the sea from the beginning of 18^th century.  Lake is very shallow – it is the only lake in Latvia, what is possibly to cross (ok, not always) by walking. I can offer you chest waders or boat and equipment to get the all kind of lake fish – wonderful pike and perch, tench, crucian carp, roach, common bream. Nearby Liepaja there are other lakes where we can go by car – Tāšu, Durbes, Papes lake – and rivers, of wich the biggest is Barta river. If you prefer bicycle, there are a lot of cycling routes. My experience as a fisherman and cyclist allows to prepare a personal offering.
